Who Are We?

Team Slayer Outdoors is an up and coming videography team from Kansas working towards the release of our first DVD.  We are regular people with regular jobs just like you who share a passion for anything and everything outdoors.

A couple for the "Slay List"

Well the trail cameras finally showed us a few pictures of some decent bucks that are running around the areas we hunt and they will be on the “Slay List” this fall. We have a history with both of the bucks below including sightings, many trail camera pics, and finding sheds. I am 99% positive that the ten point in the first picture is a buck that was a main frame eight point the last two years. My dad, Ron, actually missed this buck two seasons ago while hunting over one of our food plots. Then he picked up the bucks sheds from last year after a bunch of walking and looking, a nice main frame eight with split G2s. The second buck is a buck we call Tripod. We got trail camera pics of him early in the season and noticed that he had a bad left rear leg and it appeared to be rotten or something. Later in the season he ended up with about half a leg left. Feeding corn all winter while we had some of the most snow we have had in years really helped keep him going through the winter and into this summer. He actually grew a pretty nice set of antlers this year adding some stickers, decent mass, and a droptine. We are hoping to get a crack at one of these bucks or another nice one. We will keep you posted on sightings of these bucks.

Obviously as you already know most of us really enjoy videoing our outdoor adventures and hunting and fishing with a camera around. We have been attempting to put this together for about two years now and have learned quite a bit over that time about videoing and equipment. Now none of us are professionals and we are far from that but I just wanted to give a couple suggestions or tips about videoing your hunts. It seems in the last few years that more and more people are taking a video camera to the woods and making an effort to video their own hunts so I decided it would be a good topic. Again I nor any of the rest of our team are what you would call professional videographers but still really enjoy it and hopefully can give a little input that might help this fall. This is very basic and general but is a good starting point. First off if just starting out with a budget get the best you can within the price limit you have set. Choose the type of media you want to work with; tapes, cards, etc., right now miniDV tapes are still very popular and are a great choice for outdoor video use. Video cameras using cards to record onto are pretty popular also and will be the future though a few tweaks need to be made with some of them to be more outdoor friendly. A good sturdy, and smooth tripod and camera arm are a must to get good quality video. Also don’t forget about the audio part of your footage, it can make or break a hunt so at least a decent quality shotgun mic is a great idea. This is about as basic as it gets and very short on info, look for a more in depth blog on video stuff in the future. Also if you would like to talk about videoing or video equipment in more detail feel free to email me. Good luck this fall with the cameras.

Maybe we don’t do it enough but we would like to thank our sponsors for their support and help in getting us up and going and believing in us. We are doing our best to wrangle up the amount and quality of footage we really need and want to produce the best dvd we can. We use and trust these sponsors and are confident you will feel the same if you give them a try. So we would like to thank them and check them out for any of your needs. Double Z Decals is a local Kansas company that does high quality custom decals. They have done all of ours and also helped us out with some design and can help you too. StarrFlight is the maker of the FOB, fletching only better. Personally the best thing I have found to steer your arrow with many advantages over traditional style vanes; no glue, no ripped vanes just to name a few advantages, FOB it and hunt. Prairie Spirit Realty is a branch of United Country Real Estate. Prairie Spirit Realty serves six counties in the northern part of Kansas. If you are looking to sell or to buy get in contact with them. All of the companies listed above are great companies with great products or services but even better is they are all great people and great to deal with. Check out our sponsor link for concat information for the above campanies.
